Not promoting anything here, but thanks to a cool promotion at Blockbuster, I've got unlimited free rentals until the beginning of next month. And, I'm using this opportunity to watch all the movies I've missed over the last year and change.
Film #1:
CASE 39
This film contained the single scariest scene (gotta love alliteration) I've seen in quite some time. It involes Bradley Cooper and bees. That's all I'll say. Of course, I have a fear of bees, so this affected me moreso than, say, if someone couldn't care less for the stinger-using bastards.
Also, more power to Jodelle Ferland who is definitely on my list of actors who just don't seem to get enough work. She does so much with her eyes that she doesn't even have to talk in a scene to be effective. Still, when she does - as in the scene with her and Cooper (not the one mentioned above) - watch out. She'll give you the chills.
Seeing Ferland in this made me re-think how I've always casted Marvel Comics' Laura Kinney (a.k.a. X-23). I've always thought of Summer Glau for the part, but that's because I've allowed the sexiness of the character to take over at times. Kinney is about sixteen or seventeen in the comics, so the sexiness should never overshadow anything. The character is sad and complex. Bascially, I now see Ferland in the part. With a little training (and doesn't every actor go through training nowadays?), I can definitely see Ferland as Laura in an X-23 film.
