There was a period of time when I'd go see a Miramax Film and there'd be a trailer attached that would latch itself onto the film-portion of my brain. No matter how good (or, great) the feature presentation was, these trailers had me itching for more - and cursing the fact that I had yet to have high-speed internet in my home.
2002 - I go see Martin Scorsese's Gangs of New York. Attached is the seminal teaser for none other than "the 4th Film by Quentin Tarantino": Kill Bill.
2003 - I go see Cold Mountain. Attached is Kevin Smith's underrated Jersey Girl.
2004 - I see Scorsese's The Aviator. The trailer attached is Sin City, a project I was aware of; a project based on a series of comic from Frank Miller, which I had been aware of but had never read. The second the teaser ended, I had to read 'em. I tracked down one trade paperback collecting the middle story The Big Fat Kill.
Then, it ended. Miramax went away and killed the streak. Oh, sure - over the next several years, a few trailers would grab me, but they would always be seen after I'd seen them countless of times at home, on my computer, with my high-speed internet(!).
That said, today I bought a ticket (my brother gave me the cash, but still) to Werner Herzog's Cave of Forgotten Dreams. The 3-D version. It was the first live action film I'd ever seen. It was amazing. But, it was not the first live action footage I'd ever seen in 3-D. The came with the first 3-D trailer of the screening: Green Lantern. And, my God, if I didn't want to see it before (I did), I definitely want to see it now.
2011 will be the summer of 3-D. At least for me.
