Not promoting anything here, but thanks to a cool promotion at Blockbuster, I've got unlimited free rentals until the beginning of next month. And, I'm using this opportunity to watch all the movies I've missed over the last year and change.
Film #5:
How Do You Know
I thought this film was a mess, until I figured out James L. Brooks' game. His film is the first act.
How Do You Know is the first act to a longer story between Lisa (Reese Witherspoon) and George (Paul Rudd). This could've been the first act to a trilogy had the movie made more money at the box office (love that alliteration). The next film would've been about the newly formed romantic relationship between the two, with Lisa dumping George in a heartbreaking cliffhanger. Part three would revolve around George visiting his dad in his new home (don't want to spoil anything from part one) and finally reconciling his past. He gets back together with Lisa and the two live happily ever after.
Or, Brooks didn't know what the hell he was doing. But, I like giving people the benefit of the doubt. I hate being an asshole. That doesn't mean I forgive the film for the bad. Just explaining who I am, so that this rating somewhat makes sense. (4 out of 5)
