Not promoting anything here, but thanks to a cool promotion at Blockbuster, I've got unlimited free rentals until the beginning of next month. And, I'm using this opportunity to watch all the movies I've missed over the last year and change.
Film #11:
I Love You Phillip Morris
And, once again, Jim Carrey is ignored by the Academy. First, the was The Truman Show. Then, I'd say, Man on the Moon. Of course, there's also Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (which also deserved a nod for best director). Now, we have I Love You Phillip Morris. Carrey is fantastic.
Ewan McGregor is also good here. Between this and The Ghost Writer, it's clear the guy has range. He gets enough work, so I won't call out for that. I just think it's worth pointing out his talent.
The movie is hilarious, and goes to a dark place in the third act. If I honest, I saw the twist coming, but that didn't hinder the response I had. Kudos to the filmmakers for this one. Then again, it's supposedly all true. If so - wow.
For those not in the know, Carrey plays a homosexual named Steven Jay Russell. I bring this up, because there are a few sex scenes and if you're one to be bothered by that, well, consider this a...warning? That doesn't feel right.
Anyway, I loved this movie. (4 out of 5)
